fish died advice on photo

Postby thejonesboy » Tue Nov 22, 2016 4:56 pm

Hi everyone

This is the second fish I have lost this year. It appears to be a waxy like substance on the underneath of the fish and redening around the body.

Please look at the photos and can anyone offer any advice as I would like to treat the pond to prevent any further spread of this.

Filter and water parameters are all good.

thanks

Jim

Hi Jim I hope you find out the cause , looking at the photos , not a sausage , but I'm sure there will be someone who has had the same problem , is that a mirror carp?

By the looks of the koi it could be ether a tumour or egg compaction not seeing the fish in the flesh so to speak it’s hard to tell

Looks very much like a bacterial issue to me.

Do you have a build up dirt anywhere in your system?

I suffered very badly from this a few years ago and it was dirt building up in an area of my filter where I didn`t expect it to be.

thanks for the reply

Yes that is a good shout

as a precaution I PP'd the entire pond and filter just in case there might of been a bacterial or infection problem as I lost two fish to this.

The koi looks to be eggbound, and sometimes the egg go off and the koi dies of blood poisoning.

Also, the mark on the belly looks like the koi had been sitting on the bottom a lot over winter, which is common particularly if it is carrying eggs still.

The belly can become ulcerated and prone to bacterial infection.

Personally I would either PP the water (if over 14 degrees) or Chloromine T to ensure that any bacterial infection is not spread to others.
